Cooperative Home Care Associates (CHCA)

Adria Powell is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Cooperative Home Care Associates (CHCA), a worker-owned home care agency based in the Bronx. Adria became President in January, 2017 after serving as Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Office for several years. She joined CHCA as a Coordinator in 1993 and has assumed progressively higher levels of responsibilities since then.

During this time, CHCA has more than doubled in size and currently employs more than 2,000 home care aides and administrative and training staff. CHCA has been consistently ranked in the top ten percent of the 2000 corporations assessed by B Lab from its inception in 2013 to today.

Adria serves on the Board of Directors of several New York City-based organizations: the NYC Workforce Development Board where she was recently elected Board Chair, Independence Care System (ICS), and the 1199 SEIU Benefit Fund. She also serves as a Board member of two national organizations: PHI, a nonprofit home care research and advocacy organization for providing quality jobs and quality care and the Democracy at Work Institute, a nonprofit focused on support for a development of worker cooperatives.

Adria has a Masters in Health Policy and Management from New York University and a Baccalaureate degree from Boston College.
